Good retrieve Yogi ran in his first Field Trial last week. Things started off reasonably well; we were called up to a retrieve that the previous dog had failed on, I sent him out to the area that the judge had indicated, and he quickly located, and retrieved the bird to hand. Poor discipline So far so good, but things then went south pretty quickly. We were given a field of turnips to hunt that was nicely in to wind. Islay The 10 Month Old Vizsla

18.5 kg and 22.5 inches. Little Islay went through a bit of nervous adolescent period but she has emerged much more confident. I have seen this before in bitches of her age so wasn't overly concerned. She's sharp as a tack and reacts instantly to the whistle. Training is coming on well, she marks retrieves accurately, and goes out like a rocket. Her hunting is also high octane doing everything at 100mph. I have high hopes that she will do well in field trials. She is pictured

Yogi (The Wirehaired Vizsla) at 14 months

26.2kg and 26.5 inches - I think it's safe to say he has stopped growing upwards, although he's pretty gangly, so I'm still expecting him fill out. He likes nothing more than being out with the gun. Islay The 8 Month Old Vizsla

17.2kg and 22 1/2 inches - looks like she’s stopped growing. If that’s is the case, she’ll be one of the smaller Vizsla bitches, but that wouldn’t worry me, as what she lacks in stature, she makes up for with enthusiasm. He retrieving is excellent and we’ve just starting hunting. She pointed for the first time yesterday, but it was all a bit muddled, and we didn’t get a nice flush - fingers crossed today. Islay The 23 Week Old Vizsla

Islay on Skye - she was too young for grouse hunting but still had a great holiday. With the RIB in tow the journey up to Scotland took twelve hours but the dogs were comfortable on their Red Dog Company Large Mat. 26.3 kg and 25 1/2 inches tall. Time to get back to training having spend most of last week swimming. Yogi is doing very well with the notable exception of marking down retrieves. He has an infuriating habit of focusing on me, and not the dummy, which makes locating the thing problematic unless falls in plain sight. 12.1kg and 18 inches - She’s grown exactly one inch and one kilo over the last week. She is an enthusiastic retriever but has got into the habit of spitting the retrieve out at my feet. 26.1kg and 24.5 inches - I've never known a dog so keen on swimming. He doesn't need the excuse of fetching something, and will take himself off for a long swim, just for the hell of it. It's not unusual for him to be 75 yards out, in the middle of the lake, for five minutes.
